CHP stands for Combined Heat and Power (also called cogeneration) . The heart of a CHP unit is a generator producing electricity which can be self-consummed of sold to the grid. The engine body and exhaust gas thermal energy is recovered into a water circuit and used for heating purposes. The combined efficiency of a CHP unit reaches 90%, (one third of electricity, 2 thirds of heat).
The dimensions , sound level and exhaust gas levels of a micro-CHP unit is comparable or even lower than those of a conventionnal fuel or gas burner .
Why
not a CHP unit in your own building ?
In order to optimise the profitability of a CHP unit, a sufficient thermal
demand is necessary. Typically appartement buildings,
process heating, swimming pools (even small size) , sports
center, hotels, greenhouses , individual houses with an annual
thermal demand of 10.000 liter fuel or more are ideal candidates to cogeneration.
According to Cogen Europe, a potential of 1 million
micro-cogeneration units per year could be installed throughout Europe
!
When properly sized, a cogeneration system has a payback time of less than 5 years ! (depending of the individual countries incentives)
